I am Mia Joubert—a radiologist by profession, a wife, a mother to two wonderful boys, and a photographer with a deep love for beauty, movement and emotion.
My interest in photography began in childhood, but it became a serious pursuit in 2020 when I completed a course in Professional Photography. I continued with advanced studies in portraiture, wildlife, sport, events and food photography, always wanting to understand more about light, composition and the craft of creating a meaningful image.
Photography allows me to bring two parts of myself together. My medical work has taught me precision, patience and careful observation; my creative work gives me the freedom to explore feeling, imagination and visual storytelling.
Movement, portraiture and fine art
Dance photography holds a particularly special place in my heart. I am fascinated by the fluidity, strength and athletic beauty of movement, and I have had the privilege of photographing many talented local dancers. I also enjoy portraiture, fine-art nude and boudoir photography, and personal projects that allow an idea to grow beyond a straightforward photograph.
I draw inspiration from photographers such as David Hofmann—known as Sharkcookie—Lois Greenfield and Andrew Eccles, while continuing to develop a style that feels distinctly my own.
Recognition and creative community
I am honoured to hold the photographic distinctions FPSSA, EPSSA, PFIAP and AFIAP. My work has also received recognition in national and international photographic salons. These achievements matter to me, but the real reward remains the process of creating, learning and making photographs that stay with people.
I am also a Creative Advisor for the Art Photography Academy, where I have the opportunity to contribute to a wider creative community and help others develop their own photographic voices.
Through this website, I bring together my commissioned photography, personal fine-art work, prints, workshops and thoughts from behind the lens. I hope you will find something here that makes you pause, feel, or see the familiar in a different way.
